575 thousand dollars for the implementation of the green building project in Jordan

Ammon – Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zina Toukan, on behalf of the Jordanian government, signed a cooperation agreement between the Jordanian government, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Greater Amman Municipality, to implement the green building project in Jordan, which is intended to be funded at a value of (575) thousand dollars through a grant provided by the Finance Corporation. International donations with a value of (500) thousand dollars and an in-kind contribution of (75) thousand dollars provided by the Greater Amman Municipality.

The Mayor of Amman, Dr. Youssef Al-Shawarbeh, also signed the agreement on behalf of the implementing agency for the project, and Mr. Mukhtar Dayoub, CEO of the International Finance Corporation, the investment arm of the World Bank, signed it on behalf of the institution as the donor.

The project aims to promote the concept of green buildings, as it will focus on developing and improving the policies and regulatory framework for green buildings in the city of Amman, and working to increase community awareness and capacity building about green buildings. Design for greater efficiency.

The signing of the agreement was preceded by a meeting with Mr. Dayoub and his accompanying delegation, with the aim of discussing existing and future aspects of cooperation between Jordan and the Corporation and ways to enhance them and expand the Corporation’s portfolio in Jordan, where the importance of building on the IFC’s investments in the Kingdom over the past decades was emphasized, as he reports The size of the Foundation’s investments in Jordan is more than two billion dollars, which helped implement many priority projects and provide financial and technical support to a number of Jordanian private sector companies in the fields of renewable energy, industry, pharmaceutical industries, banks, pilot projects and emerging institutions.

The meeting discussed the most important priority projects within the executive program for the vision of economic modernization, which are being prepared, and discussed the possibility of supporting them by the institution, such as the water desalination project, the national water carrier, infrastructure projects, water loss reduction projects, logistics services and schools, in addition to advisory services in the field of improving the business environment and the importance of supporting Developing the partnership projects unit between the public and private sectors in the Ministry of Investment, and emphasizing the Foundation’s important role in providing technical support in the field of preparing and implementing partnership projects between the public and private sectors.

The International Finance Corporation was thanked for its pledges to provide investment financing amounting to $400 million to the developer of the National Water Carrier Project, and stressed the importance of the Corporation mobilizing additional funding in the form of grants for the project, in addition to discussing ways to obtain additional funding from climate change funds.

The Minister of Planning and International Cooperation stressed the importance that the Jordanian government attaches to expanding the headquarters of the permanent mission of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Amman to become a regional office for the Middle East, Pakistan and Afghanistan, which is evidence of the desire to continue to enhance cooperation and partnership with Jordan and to enhance Jordan’s strategic role in the region, in addition to To strengthen partnerships between the public and private sectors in sustainable infrastructure projects, especially projects that address climate change and water scarcity, encourage financial inclusion, and an advanced entrepreneurial environment in Jordan, and demonstrate the importance of this in attracting international expertise to support and expand investments in Jordan and the region.

For his part, Mr. Dayoub praised the depth of cooperation relations between Jordan and the International Finance Corporation, and stressed that the Kingdom will witness increased activities with the support of the Corporation, stressing Jordan’s continued support to achieve its development priorities for the next stage, hoping to increase cooperation in the future and maximize the use of the financing opportunities and tools available to the Corporation. Through various financing windows, and assistance in implementing partnership priorities between the public and private sectors.

The Regional Vice President for the Middle East, Central Asia, Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Ms. Hela Cheikhrouhou, and the Regional Director for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Mr. Khawaja Aftab Ahmed, participated in the meeting.
