Israeli official: We received the green light to begin the ground invasion of the Gaza Strip
An Israeli official said Thursday evening that the forces had received the green light from the Israeli government to move overland and invade the Gaza Strip, according to the American ABC channel.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant confirmed that the ground operation in Gaza is ready for implementation.
Ehud Barak warns of a ground invasion
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak said on Thursday that Israel is likely to launch a ground attack on the Gaza Strip within days.
In an interview with NBC News, Barak warned the Israeli forces against rushing into making a ground invasion of the Gaza Strip.
Barak: A ground invasion is inevitable
He continued: “The most likely development is that within a few days a much larger force will enter the Gaza Strip. He acknowledged how difficult a ground invasion would be for Israeli forces.”
Barak was Israel’s defense minister during the largest ground incursion into the Gaza Strip in 2009, having served as special forces commander, commander-in-chief of the Israel Defense Forces, then prime minister once and defense minister twice, according to The Guardian.
He said that any ground operation must follow international law, but we cannot ignore the fact that there have already been many citizens killed, and perhaps there will be more.
