Sudan is calling for the appointment of a new representative of the United Nations to succeed Volcker
Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadiq called for changing the head of the United Nations mission. Volker Peretz, to help with the transition in Sudan, “Unitams”, and to appoint a replacement for him, stressing that his country’s claim does not involve any extortion.
In a statement today, the minister affirmed that his country’s position is not a threat to anyone, but he exercised his legitimate right to accept whoever he sees as serving Sudan and its people and reject those who work against him.
He called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations to appoint a new representative to succeed Volcker, as the work in the “UNITAMS” mission, in light of the circumstances that Sudan is going through, does not tolerate a vacuum.
He stated that Sudan succeeded during the UN Security Council session on the situation in Sudan in its endeavor to exclude Volcker from the Council session, and to submit a statement on Sudan, as Sudan had previously declared it persona non grata.
