Trump announces the addition of a new lawyer against the backdrop of his involvement in the Capitol events

Today, Thursday, the Trump campaign announced the addition of former US President Donald Trump, attorney John Lauro, to his legal team in matters related to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into Trump’s actions after the 2020 presidential election.

Lauro’s addition comes after Trump announced that he had been summoned by Smith’s office, due to his criminal involvement in the Capitol events, and his prevention of the peaceful transfer of power after the 2020 elections, according to the American CBS network.

Smith’s office cited three main charges in Trump’s indictment, two of which relate to conspiracy to commit a crime or to defraud the United States, and deprivation of rights under the law. And the third includes possible charges that range from obstructing an official procedure to tampering with a witness, victim or informant, according to what CBS reported, citing a source in the Trump campaign.

Trump chose “John Larore” as a well-known lawyer close to the media circles in the United States, as he has extensive experience in similar cases, and Larore is scheduled to come out speaking about Trump soon, according to the aforementioned report.

Trump is already facing criminal charges, including Smith’s investigation into the former US president’s handling of classified White House documents. He also faces more than thirty government charges in New York, where he was charged by a grand jury in Manhattan with an investigation into the payment of “political money” to adult movie star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.

Trump defended himself, stressing that he is not guilty of all convictions, considering that the investigations are politically motivated as he seeks the Republican nomination for 2024.
