Zawati: Energy has succeeded in expanding the electricity network and achieving a high rate of access

Ammon – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources succeeded in expanding the electricity network and achieving a high rate of access to electricity in all regions of the Kingdom, according to the former Minister of Energy, Eng. Hala Zawati.

This came in a dialogue session held by the Jordan Economic Forum to discuss the challenges and future of the energy sector in Jordan, in the presence of economic and political figures, including the Chairman of the Forum, Dr.

According to a statement issued by the forum today, Thursday, Zawati touched on the challenges of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) during the events of the Arab Spring, and how it faced these challenges.

She stressed the importance of Arab and international cooperation in this sector, pointing to the benefits of electrical interconnection with neighboring countries, especially with Egypt and Palestine.

She pointed out that Jordan is currently feeding the Palestinian side with energy, and is expected to export energy to Iraq in the near future.

With regard to renewable energy, Eng. Zawati explained that the Kingdom currently generates 27% of its need from these sources, calling for exploiting the available infrastructure and diversifying energy sources to ensure the stability of the electrical system.

At the end of the session, Al-Zawati praised the prominent role of the Jordan Economic Forum in supporting and developing economic policies in the Kingdom.
